Clarification of details in "Holding back the fears" [Dec 2006 issue, page 66] ...

In the Soft Copy article "Holding back the fears" [Dec 2006 issue, page 66] there was confusion in some vendors responses to the pricing in the features tables.

The Licensing Cost for Sophos PureMessage, for the initial year was correctly stated as $55.25 and this does include the entire “security bundle” of Anti Virus and Anti Spam. The Anti Virus functionality can be supplied individually at a cost of $40.71 for the first year.

We were not made aware that Sophos PureMessage offers multi-year licensing options that result in a lower cost per year. The correct Long-term Cost figures should be as follows:

1 year

3 years

5 years

PureMessage Anti Virus (per user for 50 to 99 users)

$40.71

$81.42

$122.13

PureMessage Anti Virus & Anti Spam (per user for 50 to 99 users)

$55.25

$110.50

$165.75

All prices are inclusive of GST

This revision in Sophos’ pricing places it as the second least expensive Anti-Virus solution over three years, behind Kaspersky, and the third least expensive Anti-Virus solution over five years, behind Kaspersky and Trend Micro, rather than the most expensive solution overall.

This revision to the scoring does not include the Anti-Spam functionality that was previously included for the scoring determination in the original review and now only considers the Anti-Virus product.

We stand by our findings published in the December 2006 issue and this change in pricing is due to new information from Sophos being supplied to us.
